  • The 1883 List of Mines records Mosside No.4 mine, owned by Gavin Paul, manager Walter Annan, working the Balbardie coal by the longwall method, employing 3 on the surface and 20 underground. The downcast shaft was 9' x 6' and 900 ft deep, the upcast was 8' x 6' and 90 feet deep. It was a non-fiery mine, ventilated by furnace. The mine dipped at 1 in 2¾ .
  • The 1885 List of Mines records Mosside No.4, owned by Gavin Paul, manager Walter Annan, working the Balbardie, 5'9", Shaley, 4' coals by the longwall method, employing 5 on the surface and 30 underground. The downcast shaft was 9' x 6' and 1,050 ft deep, the upcast 8' x 6', and 96 feet deep. It was a non-fiery pit dipping at 1 in 2¾
