Pit in the lands of Woodmuir to the Bathgate Main Coal south of the fault at 30 fathoms and 57 fathoms north of the fault. Presumably one of two pits at Woodmuir referred to in a sale notice of July 1870.

  • Mineral Statistics for 1883 records Woodmuir No.1 pit, owned by the Woodmuir Coal Co., manager D.M. Culloch, working the Woodmuir and Wilsontown Coals by the stoop and room method, employing 14 on the surface and 45 underground, with a downcast shafts 6' x 6' and 15 ft deep, and 8' x 5.5' and 36 ft deep with upcast shaft 8.5' x 4.5' and 222 ft deep. It was a non-fiery mine.
  • Mineral Statistics for 1886 record Woodmuir No.1 as owned by the Woodmuir No.1 pit, manager Thomas Kerr, working the Wilsontown Main Coal by the stoop and room method, employing 15 on the surface and 48 underground, The downcast shaft was 8' x 5½' and 36 ft deep, the upcast was 8½' x 4½' and 222 feet deep. It was a non-fiery mine ventilated by furnace.

    Fatal Accident at a Coal Pit. David Graham, miner, residing at Barkburn, accidently fell into the shaft of No. 1 Woodmuir, Blinkbonny, near West Calder, on Thursday afternoon, and was instantaneously killed. The deceased was employed as a pitheadman, wae engaged in taking a "kettle" off the gearing at the mouth of the pit, when the vessel slipped and fell into the shaft. Graham had hold of it at the time, but let go before it disappeared. He was, however unable to regain his balance, and fell headlong into the pit.
