An ironstone pit in the lands of Benthead, to the Crofthead or Colinburn Coal at 20 fathoms and the Crofthead Slatyband at 30 fathoms.

The shaft is marked on an 1843 mine plan, and the pit is shown as operational on the 1852 OS map, and served by a siding from the Wilsontown, Coltness, and Morningside Railway
