Badallan pit

A small coal pit, in the lands of Badallan. Close to the Wilsontown, Coltness, and Morningside railway, but seemingly not served by a siding. Closed c.1894 following flooding.

SHOTTS. Burning of a Bing of Coals.—On Friday morning, a fire broke out at Badallan Colliery, Shotts. by which a large bing of coal belonging to Messrs Gilmour & Cowen, coalmasters, was partially destroyed. The fire was first observed by the workers when going to their work in the morning. The loss will be considerably above £100. It is not known how the fire had originated.

LINLITHGOW BANKRUPTCY COURT . —Andrew Hamilton , James Hamilton, and Robert Hamilton, forming the Badallan Colliery Company, Fauldhouse, were examined at Linlithgow yesterday in bankruptcy before Sheriff Melville. Mr Caesar, solicitor, Bathgate, said the cause of the firm's failure was bad debts, and their pit being flooded with water. The statutory oath was administered . The liabilities of the firm are set down at £233 , and the assets at £355.
