On Monday last, an accident occurred which proved in one instance fatal Alex Haston, miner, Durhamtown, and his son, George Haston, had been working in No. 2 Limestone Pit, Standhill, and a large quantity of rock and rubbish suddenly fell from the roof, almost burying the unfortunate man. Their cries brought some of the other miners to their assistance, who succeeded in extricating them both, and had them brought to the surface. They were taken home and thereafter attended by Dr Longmuir, when it was found the arms and ribs were fractured.
