Ironstone pit in the lands of Eastfield. The shaft may later have been redeveloped as Crofthead No.5 pit

"This is a large Mine, being worked by 3 Engines. Two used for the Pumps (80 horse power and 50 horse power) and One for withdrawing minerals and refuse (18 horse power). the depth of shaft being 90 fathoms and the thickness of seam 13 inches: very fine Ironstone is taken from this Mine: it is leased and worked by the Coltness Iron company and is the property of John Storry of Burnhead by Longridge.
