The 1885 List of Mines records Fauldhouse No.5, owned by William Dixon Ltd. manager Thomas Nimmo, working the Big Coal by the longwall method, employing 3 on the surface and 17 underground. The downcast shaft was 5' x 4' and 132 ft deep, the upcast was 5' x 4' and 132 feet deep. It was a non-fiery pit ventilated by furnace.
