Annotation on 1870's plan - land owned by Storrey Esq., minerals let to Coltness Iron Co.

The Glasgow Coal Company are once more preparing to resume operations on Eastfield. They have engaged Mr Robert Wardlaw as manager of their works, and as he is well acquainted with their coalfield its rapid development may be confidently anticipated. Dixon's Company (Limited) are also resuming operations at the large ironstone pit which they stopped in February last. When fully set a-going it will employ over 200 men. The new pit belonging to Mr Thornton is being put down with characteristic energy. It is expected that the lower or Crofthead coal will be reached this week. Houses are now being let which have stood empty for a long time, thus proving, if proof was needed, that "Crofthead is no' dune yet."
