There is an area coloured Blue excepted from the Lease as it supports a gun station. Contract of Tack between Hopetoun Estate Development Company and The Oakbank Oil Company Ltd, dated 13 July 1940 and signed by Sir William Fraser and Robert Crighton, Directors and The most Honourable The Marquess of Linlithgow and Colonel Guy Speir related to Oil Shale in part of the Lands and Estate of Duddingston. There is a signed plan attached dated 13 and 24 July 1940 with various areas coloured. There is a key to the plan which describes the various coloured areas. NB.
