Serving Philpstoun Oil Works

A short-lived mine - in the Fawnspark area.

Other than two "old shaft", Ordnance Survey maps show no trace of the mine, or of any tramway linking this to Philpstoun Oil Works (although the route of this might have subsequently been obscured beneath Philpstoun South bing). Similarly no trace remains on the ground, suggesting that substantial work was undertaken to return the site to agriculture on closure of the mine.

Shale-field: Champfleurie, Philpstoun and Blackness shale-fields.

Mapped by the Ordnance Survey of c.1895, showing surprisingly little evidence of mine workings.
