Redwood notes that Millburn Oil Works, proprietors Smith Bros. & Murling, located in Larkhall, operated in 1884, producing crude only; made chiefly from dross of main seam of common coal.

Valuation Records

Valuation rolls for 1885, list Smith Bros. & Muurling as proprietors, Jas. Scott manager, with a rateable value of £230 for the chemical works and £10 for associated house. Valuation rolls for 1895 list proprietors as Richard Smith's executors, chemical manufacturers, John Jamieson manager and rateable values of £230 for works and £10 for house.
