Three local veteran oilworkers who retired last week-end were Messrs Adam Newbigging, Anthony McNairney, and Peter Cross. All three had long association with the oil trade, in the cases of Messrs Newbigging and McNairney well over half a century. Adam Newbigging was in his youth famous as one of the leading quoiters in Scotland, and in his hey-day was considered the best pitcher in the country. In football circles early in the century Anthony McNairney was a half-back of the first quality, being a member of the famous West Lothian Albion team from Broxburn. I offer all three my best wishes for many happy years of leisure.

OBITUARY
It was with sadness that the friends and neighbours of Adam Newbigging heard of his death last Monday. Adam, who was 85 years old, had been in indifferent health over the past year. He was a grand conversationalist and had a pawky sense of humour and a wonderful memory. He was also a leading figure during the quoiting era. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his sister Annie who has tended him so well and faithfully over these past trying months.
