Description
Decorative brass ink and pen desk set minus ink stands, inscribed "presented along with dressing case to James Allison by the employees of the Caledonian Oil Co Ltd Tarbrax as a mark of esteem August 1902".
Found along with other items from a house clearance at Whitburn refuse depot c. 1972
The Caledonian Oil Company was established c1890 to develop an oil works at Tarbrax and Candleworks at Lanark. It went into liquidation in 1898, reconstituted unsuccessfully and finally liquidated in 1905. Production continued until 1902 and the site acquired by the Tarbrax Oil Company c. 1905
