Description

Glass plate negative of technical drawing of screw cooler, Addiewell Works, scale 1" = 1 foot, 18th March 1906, drawing No. E191.

Box labelled "Young & Beilby Retorts, Young & Fyfe Retorts". The screw cooler was used to assist the separation of wax from heavy oils. Probably a refrigerated liquid was pumped through the exterior jacket and core of the screw. Wax flakes would be drawn to this cooled screw and discharged separately from the oil one end of the machine

One of a series of lantern slides / glass plate negatives, thought to be used by Scottish Oils Ltd for instructional lectures
