Description

Glass plate negative of technical drawing of proposed new retort, Young & Fyfe type, scale 1/2" = 1 foot, c. 1905.

Shows longitudinal cross sections of a retort, the lower part having a firebrick lining, the upper part having a cast iron lining. The retort appears to be a modification of the Young & Beilby retort, patented 1882, presumably incorporating modifications by John Fyfe of Young's Paraffin Light & Mineral Oil Company. Box labelled "Young & Beilby Retorts, Young & Fyfe Retorts"

One of a series of lantern slides / glass plate negatives, thought to be used by Scottish Oils Ltd for instructional lectures
