Glass plate negative of Roman Camp Oil Works under construction: showing the mineral railway, main chimney and workers housing already complete and work in progress on a bank of Henderson patent retorts, 1892.
One of a series of lantern slides / glass plate negatives, thought to be used by Scottish Oils Ltd for instructional lectures.

The Broxburn Oil Company constructed new mines, oil works, and company village at Roman Camp in 1892. Roman Camp oil works continued in production until c.1955 and was mostly cleared by c 1958.
