Description

Candle making frame reputedly made/assembled by Prices' Patent Candles Ltd c. 1920, machine No.12/329.

The machine contains 128 pewter moulds surrounded by a chamber which can be filled either with hot or cold water. Hot wax is poured into the heated moulds which are then cooled and the candles ejected. A continuous wick runs through the mould which is cut once a second batch of candles has been cast

The candle making frame was developed for the industrial production of candles in about 1830. The same basic design remains in use today. This machine was acquired from Price's Patent Candles of London and bears their machine number 12/329. Price's operated the Broxburn candle works for a period during the 1950's and this machine is very similar to those pictured in views of the Broxburn works
