Description

Steel trammel: adjustable gasket cutting tool used by pipe fitters at Pumpherston Refinery, circa 1940.

It could be adjusted to cut different diameter circles of gasket material which would be bolted between pipe flanges to prevent leaks. Made by Wynn and Timmins, Reg 694232

Oil works and refineries contained a huge amount of pipework and a large number of pipefitters and other engineering staff were employed to maintain it. The donor, Melvyn Graham worked as a fitter at Pumpherston Oil Refinery for many years
