Description

Shale miner's 18" long pick head, marked "D. McK", c. 1950.

Used for dislodging and breaking the shale after it had been loosened with explosive charges

Part of a miner's "graith" or toolkit which was the personal property of each faceman. Possibly the former property of Daniel McKenzie (the donor Alex Reid has donated other items relating to Daniel McKenzie)
